QCT Introduces Industry Leading Hardware Platform to Support Deep Learning Applications

QCT showcases the QuantaPlex S41T-2U—its first server powered by the new Intel® Xeon Phi™ processor—and other next-gen platforms at ISC High Performance conference.

FRANKFURT, Germany // June 20, 2016—ISC High Performance 2016—Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT), a global datacenter solution provider, introduced at the ISC High Performance conference today a new high performance computing (HPC) server—the QuantaPlex S41T-2U—powered by the new Intel® Xeon Phi™ processor, which Intel launched today at the conference.

The QuantaPlex S41T-2U—designed to power highly parallel applications such as deep learning, data mining, big data analytics, simulation CAE/CFD, and scientific virtualization—is the first QCT server to feature the new Intel Xeon Phi processor family, formerly code-named “Knights Landing.”

The ability to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) is one of the advantages of QuantaPlex S41T-2U. The socketed host Intel Xeon Phi processor delivers highly parallel performance without the need for PCIe add-in cards and by extension is not dependent on the PCIe bus and is highly scalable. Moreover, because it is binary-compatible with existing Intel® Xeon® processors, the Intel Xeon Phi processor family is both highly programmable and runs any legacy x86 software for maximum utilization, foregoing the need for costly software porting like a GPU solution. In initial testing, the QuantaPlex S41T-2U delivered extreme power efficiency, achieving a 40 percent increase in performance/watt/dollar compared to its GPU counterpart.

The Intel Xeon Phi processor family also features integrated Intel Omni-Path fabric, a high-speed interconnect on the same package as the Intel CPU. OPA is designed to enable switches that achieve better power and cost efficiency than those depending on traditional InfiniBand interconnects.

Also at ISC High Performance 2016, QCT will showcase at Booth 720 these additional systems designed for high performance computing:

  • QuantaVault JB2720 is a performance-boosting and all-flash-array JBOD system that dramatically lowers latency to storage drives. QuantaVault JB2720 features dual-path access, no single-point-of-failure and individual drive power-on/off features.

  • QuantaMesh T7032-IX1 is a new generation 100G Ethernet switch equipped with up to 32x 100G QSFP28 ports, featuring high speed, high bandwidth and ultra-low latency.

***QCT experts will present at exhibitor forum session titled, “Enhance Your HPC Performance with QCT’s Next Generation Hardware Solution” at 3 pm on Wednesday, June 22, at Booth 500.***

“QCT is proud to be leading the industry in delivering a diversity of hardware platform choices designed to propel exciting advances in high performance computing such as image processing and language recognition,” said Mike Yang, president of QCT. “With the debut of QuantaPlex S41T-2U, QCT demonstrates once again its commitment to enabling a fundamental revolution in deep learning.”

“Some of the most important scientific breakthroughs occurring today are made possible by high performance computing,” said Barry Davis, general manager, Accelerator Products Group at Intel.  “The Intel Xeon Phi processor family, incorporated into QCT’s server platforms, offers a powerful platform for running highly parallel computations that will help to deliver deeper insights and advances which were not previously possible.”
