Taoyuan, Taiwan – June 5, 2024 - Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT), QCT, a global data center and 5G solution provider, and Samsung, the world leader in advanced memory technology, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize collaboration between the two organizations. The agreement defines the collaboration of these groups regarding hardware and software technologies for IT solutions, with an initial focus on Compute Express Link (CXL) 2.0 in the EDSFF E3.S form factor, and to identify use cases for the intent of increasing market efficiencies.

Samsung successfully developed the first CXL 2.0 DRAM modules in 2023 with Intel[i]. Samsung’s latest CXL 2.0 DRAM will adopt the E3.S form factor with a memory capacity of up to 256 GB. It supports a PCIe 5.0 × 8 interface, and these modules can be directly connected to QCT’s latest generation of server motherboards supporting the CXL 2.0 specification and the E3.S interface. As a result, it expands QCT’s server memory capacity and bandwidth.

“Samsung, as a member of the CXL Consortium Board of Directors, has been working closely with CXL ecosystem partners across the board, such as with global data center, server, and chipset vendors as well as CXL software companies and academia,” said Jangseok Choi, vice president of New Business Planning Team at Samsung Electronics. “Our CXL 2.0 partnership with QCT is an exemplary case of collaboration for CXL memory solutions, which will accelerate the ecosystem CXL adoption.”

QCT offers a full portfolio of servers and solutions that deliver optimized performance and the essential computing power for a variety of data center workloads. With their own ecosystem of partners, they are enabling a wide range of AI, HPC and edge computing use cases across various industries.

“QCT is excited to partner with Samsung to support CXL 2.0 and advanced next-generation architectures,” said Mike Yang, President of QCT. “This agreement facilitates our organization’s adoption of Samsung’s CMM-D into our latest QuantaGrid servers and we see this as an opportunity that will ultimately benefit the entire industry.”

Currently, the two companies are preparing to identify key use cases that benefit from these memory solutions and defining reference architectures for each use case, in which all computing resources are connected. The collaboration will define benchmarks and measure the advantages of CXL 2.0.
