Technology collaborators join hands to drive QCT’s “Central Office 2.0” vision to fulfill Telco needs at the edge
Barcelona (Spain); February 26, 2018 - Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT) will showcase its innovative 5G infrastructure solutions at Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s largest gathering for the mobile industry, in Barcelona (Hall 5, Booth 5B11). From February 26th till March 1st, 2018 the global provider of cloud computing hardware, software and services will unveil details of its network transformation solutions for Communication Service Providers (CoSPs). QCT has taken a leading role to build an ecosystem with best-in-class technology collaborators and customers, such as Intel and Red Hat, as well as emerging networking communities, that include but are not limited to the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) and Open Platform for NFV (OPNFV). The ultimate goal is to develop robust, open standard-based networking solutions that meet the growing capacity and low-latency demands at the edge of the network. This is in accordance with QCT’s “Central Office 2.0” vision, a next-generation central office that advances edge computing for high-performance and low-latency 5G applications.
To achieve this goal, QCT has engineered an Intel ® Select Solution for NFVI. QCT’s QuantaGrid D52BQ-2U was verified by Intel to meet the expected performance for an Intel Select Solution to empower CoSP and network operators to build an optimized, agile NFVI with the latest Intel technologies including Intel® Xeon® processor Scalable family, Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT) and Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK). “QCT’s long-term collaboration with Intel and our strategic partners now extends to the Telco space,” said Mike Yang, President of QCT. “Our collaboration with our cloud ecosystem partners directly address emerging requirements in the Telco market with an optimized NFVI Platform that supports carrier-grade infrastructure, and delivering a practical software-defined networking solution for disaggregating the control and data plane and providing performance consistency on IA-based systems. Through these strategic partnerships with the industry’s leading hardware and software providers in the 5G infrastructure space, we’ve developed high-performance open platforms that are aimed at lowering Telco CAPEX and provide a competitive OPEX advantage for increased margins over the long-term.” With the vision of “Central Office 2.0”, QCT will showcase the following product offerings:
- QxStack NFV Infrastructure with Red Hat® OpenStack® Platform – with Intel data plane calibration and Enhanced Platform Awareness (EPA) enabled for optimized network performance
- QCT Rackgo R Vertical Integration with OpenStack – an Intel® RSD-based full-featured rack level solution with easy deployment and scalability
- QCT Central Office Re-architected as a Datacenter (CORD) Ready POD for central office and edge computing – the world’s first fully integrated open source infrastructure ready for customer validation
QCT is an active ONF community collaborator, and co-hosted the first-ever CORD build community event in QCT San Jose office in last Nov. QCT has also built the “QCT CORD Ready POD,” the world’s first integrated CORD POD solution that is based on the latest Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processor Platform. The QCT CORD solution will be delivered in flexible CORD POD form factors. With this offering, 5G operators and workload service developers will no longer need to spend lots of time searching for suitable combination of components to build their infrastructure. To put this into practice QCT offers a variety of servers and switches to meet CPU, network, and storage resource requirements for different workloads. “Our long, collaborative relationship with QCT is based upon a mutual vision to meet the challenges across data center and network environments with innovative solutions based on Intel platforms and open data center technologies,” said Renu Navale, Sr. Director, Network Industry Enabling, Network Platforms Group, Intel. “By delivering the latest Intel Select Solution for NFV based on Xeon Scalable processors, QCT will accelerate Network Function Virtualization infrastructure deployment with an optimized, verified configuration.” “The ONF, an operator led consortium driving the transformation of network infrastructure and business models, is pleased to see the ever-increasing interest in CORD from Telco operators, service providers, and commodity hardware providers," said Timon Sloane, VP of marketing and ecosystem at ONF. "As a respected member of our organization, QCT has actively collaborated in the development of the CORD platform with their expertise in designing and manufacturing of server, storage, switch and rack systems. Having been validated by ONF, QCT's CORD Ready POD is not only compatible with the latest CORD platform, but also the first validated CORD POD realized on Intel’s Xeon Scalable Processors. ONF sees a level of investment and commitment from QCT suited to ensure the introduction of more CORD solutions for a variety of 5G use cases and scenarios.”
