Quanta Cloud Technology (QCT) and Taiwan Optical Platform announced that the companies will integrate private 5G networks and fiber optic networks to enable several PoC projects including 5G smart golf course and 5G smart campus. Taiwan Optical Platform integrated their fiber optic networks with QCT’s private 5G solution to help the Wu Fong Golf Course transform into Taiwan’s first 5G Smart Golf Course. This exciting collaboration will introduce multiple technological innovations, including drone inspection, mixed reality (MR) hitting assistance, robotic lawn mowers for environmental maintenance, and wearables that support health monitoring. Furthermore, an outdoor private 5G network testing field featuring the high bandwidth, low latency and extensive connections of 5G will be built to enable the aforementioned scenarios. This field will also serve as a center for a real-time worker dispatch system to solve the labor shortage and management issues of traditional courses, enhancing the operational efficiency, safety, and use experience of the golf course. First, a drone fleet that performs inspection service will become a key characteristic of this golf course. By connecting the drones to a private 5G network, course administrators can conduct comprehensive course monitoring and safe inspection to ensure its safety and smooth operations. Second, the MR swing assistance technology can bring a brand-new hitting experience to course members. By wearing a smart helmet, members can receive real-time data and guidance during their swing, thus improving players’ swing skills and strategy. In addition, robotic lawn mowers will significantly increase the efficiency of course maintenance, as they can automatically mow the lawns through self-navigation and monitoring, saving time and human resources. This Smart Golf Course will also introduce wearable health and safety monitoring devices, which collect course users’ biological data and transmit those over the private 5G network, allowing them to monitor their health status such as heart rate in real time, as well as helping the course managers to stay informed of course members’ and employees’ safety. Apart from the Smart Golf Course, Hsin Yong An Cable TV, subsidiary of Taiwan Optical Platform, also works with QCT to realize AR/VR-assisted English teaching. Under the supervision of Tainan City Government, this use case will address the learning needs of school children in remote areas by simulating diverse English conversation scenarios with virtual reality. In this way, school children in remote areas can connect online to enter an English-based interactive environment where they can play games and learn English at the same time. Once the campus is covered with 5G signal, the gamification English learning platform will operate smoothly and steadily, allowing the school children to enhance both their English proficiency and digital knowledge. The collaboration between QCT and Taiwan Optical Platform will open a new chapter for Taiwan’s private 5G networks, accelerating the development of comprehensive and tailor-made solutions that address the characteristics, demands, and pain points of different environments such as a golf course or campus. Through system integration and cross-industry collaboration, these innovative solutions can provide real-time feedback to enhance user experience and field safety while reducing time and human resources. Ultimately, such collaborations will lay grounds for the realization and sustainable operation of numerous smart services.
