Quanta QCT Unveils High-Density Micro Server with Intel During Keynote at Computex 2012 Quanta QCT Unveils High-Density Micro Server with Intel During Keynote at Computex 2012
TAIPEI – June 6, 2012 /PRWeb/ – Quanta QCT, a leading provider of server, storage and network equipment to datacenter customers in the United States, unveiled to the public a high-density micro server powered by the Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1200 and Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 v2 product family. Mike Yang, Quanta QCT’s general manager and vice president, presented the micro server product during a keynote address at Computex 2012 in Taipei, Taiwan. The keynote was given by Boyd Davis, general manager and vice president of the Datacenter Infrastructure Group, which partnered with Quanta in design of the new micro server. The STRATOS S910-X31B micro server, which will be available through U.S. channel partners in Q3 2012, is the first of several products in Quanta QCT’s micro server lineup. The micro server architecture will provide advancements in power efficiency and system cooling compared to conventional single node designs by sharing common components such as fans and the power supply. The S910-X31B has four times the computing density of three traditional one-socket 1U servers stacked together. With its multi-node design, the S910-X31B is optimized for the applications of dedicated hosting, front-end web, content delivery networks and cloud computing applications. Component sharing allows Quanta to achieve higher compute density. The S910-X31B systems will come in standard 3U rackmount form factors, with options of nine to twelve sleds. The nine sled system can support all Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1200 and Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 v2 product family SKUs up to the maximum 95W. This provides the highest performance per cubic foot in the industry. Twelve-sled systems can support all Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1200 v2 product family SKUs up to 69W with four cores at 3.6 Ghz speed. This allows the micro server to achieve the highest density without compromising performance. Design innovations in the S910-X31B include an innovative internal Ethernet switching board that offers the flexibility of joining each sled’s network into a dual 10 Gb SFP+ external port. Other design innovations include a total management solution that requires attaching only one network cable in order to manage all sleds, simplifying remote management. These innovations simplify cable management and reduce cost by eliminating extra top-of-rack switches and network cabling requirements. “The close collaboration between Quanta and Intel in micro server design has resulted in a new standard for compute density and energy efficiency,” said Mike Yang, general manager and vice president of Quanta QCT. “Combined with Quanta’s engineering excellence in reducing datacenter CAPEX and OPEX, this is the beginning of a new micro server era.” About Quanta QCT Quanta QCT provides a comprehensive line of off-the-shelf server, storage and networking solutions to datacenter customers in the United States. Quanta QCT targets midsize and large enterprises, governments and service providers who want the engineering excellence of a global manufacturer of integrated datacenter solutions, but do not require the scale and resources of a full-service ODM. Quanta QCT is headquartered in Fremont, Calif., and its parent company is Quanta Computer, Inc., a $37 billion original design manufacturer. Quanta QCT is the only company that delivers all of the major components of the datacenter value chain: server, storage and networking equipment design and manufacturing capability in a single, proven resource. Presently, datacenters are built with server, storage and networking equipment from different manufacturers. While the industry has adapted to this inefficiency, QCT now makes it possible for datacenters to work with a single manufacturer to verify that the solution is engineered to deliver their targeted technical and cost performance benchmarks.
